It is extremely important for you to keep your jugs sterile. As of April 2011, our water has not tested positive for total coliform in samples submitted to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment for analysis. However, if you put pure water into a contaminated container, you will have contaminated water.
To prevent bacteria from forming in your jugs, you should use the following procedure:
1. Use two tablespoons of Chlorine in one cup of water.
2. Shake this solution in your jug and let stand for two minutes.
3. Rinse thoroughly and dump it out.
4. Keep your jugs tightly sealed, to prevent any bacteria from entering your jugs.
Following this procedure will greatly extend the shelf life of your water.
